Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) Guidelines Database Now Open Monthly Show “Indoor Environments: Global Research to Action” #6 Reminder: ISIAQ Mentorship Program Postdoc Position: Impact of Wool Carpets on Indoor Air Quality Words from the President
2021 is now over. This past year brought hope of the pandemic ending and a return to ‘normal,’ followed by disappointment with new variants, continued event cancellations, and a return to working from home. Despite these multiple challenges, the past year was rich and stimulating for our research and indoor sciences in general. More than ever, scientific knowledge, established data, transparency, and dissemination to practitioners and policy makers are needed to help gain a better understanding alongside huge uncertainties and controversies. This is what we called for throughout the year within our institutions and within ISIAQ. Healthy Buildings Conferences in Europe and America, as well as the ISIAQ monthly webinars, have been the place for knowledge and opinion sharing and dissemination.
2022 begins with uncertainty about the coming weeks and months, but we remain hopeful that the virus will be defeated soon. We also hope that the new paradigm for indoor air quality that was conceptualized in 2021 will become reality in the post-pandemic world, that consciousness of the importance of IAQ will remain in citizens’ minds, and that ventilation will be a priority topic for building managers. More concretely, 2022 will still be rich for ISIAQ with the election of a new board in April-May (please contact us if you are interested in joining the board!), the Indoor Air Conference in June, and some special events to celebrate ISIAQ’s 30th anniversary throughout the year.
I wish you and your family, friends, and colleagues a wonderful 2022. May this new year bring you happiness, health, exciting projects and ideas, and new challenges!

The call for letters to organize Indoor Air 2024 is now open. Historical rotation of the Indoor Air conference series would place the 2024 conference in Asia and Pacific Rim or Americas region. Proposals from other regions will not be disqualified, but if two proposals with the same quality are received, the proposal from the Asia and Pacific Rim or Americas region will be favored.
Letters of Interest shall be submitted to the ISIAQ Secretariat by 5 pm US EST on the 1st of February 2022. After a review process by the ISIAQ Conference Committee, a short list of candidates will be invited to submit a Full Proposal by May/June 2022.
The Letter of Interest should describe: proposed host organization, conference president and other key organizers; proposed venue: city and facility, facility capacity for plenary and number of breakout rooms; estimated room cost of potential conference hotels and distance from conference venue; lodging options for students; proposed registration fees for full registrants and students; and expected sponsors and potential amounts of support. Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) Guidelines Database Now Open
![]() ISIAQ Scientific and Technical Committee (STC) 34 has developed a database to share worldwide IEQ guidelines. The database is accessible through a dedicated website: www.ieqguidelines.org.
On the database page, you will have access to the entire database in a tabular format where you can search, sort, and filter by any fields available. On the map page, you will have access to the national guidelines by country on an interactive map.
You can also report an error and/or send feedback by clicking the links on either page. Currently, the database is focused on indoor air quality parameters. In the future, the database will be extended to include guidelines related to ventilation, comfort, acoustics, and lighting. We hope the database will be actively used to serve researchers, practitioners, and policymakers across the world! Monthly Show “Indoor Environments: Global Research to Action” #6
![]() “Indoor Environments: Global Research to Action” is the fruit of a collaboration between ISIAQ and the Indoor Environmental Quality Global Alliance (IEQ-GA) initiated in 2021.
Program #6 will be held on January 21st. During this program, Marwa Zaatari and Bill Bahnfleth will discuss the following topic: “An Indoor Air Quality Paradigm Shift – Why, What, and How?”
This and previous webcasts are available at no charge or subscription at: Indoor Environments Show | HealthyIndoors Reminder: ISIAQ Mentorship Program
![]() ISIAQ mentors and students can enroll for the Mentorship Program through registration on the website. ISIAQ will then pair up mentor-mentee pairs based on the research fields. Meeting opportunities will be organized during the Healthy Buildings and Indoor Air Conferences. In addition to the face-to-face contact, mentors and their mentees are encouraged to interact online; we are all very used to this after months of remote work!
You must be a current society member to participate in this program and view additional details about the mentorship program. To sign up as a mentor or student for the mentorship program or to view additional program details, please login here. Postdoc Position: Impact of Wool Carpets on Indoor Air Quality
The Research Group of Indoor Environment at Delft University, The Netherlands, is specifically focused on people and their health and comfort, influenced by buildings and environmental factors, indoors and outdoors. The staff of the group comprises of 7 PhD candidates and 2 postdocs, supervised by Professor Dr. Philomena M. Bluyssen. Research is performed both in the field (offices, schools, dwellings, hospitals) as well as in the SenseLab. The SenseLab consists of an experience room and four test chambers. A postdoc position is open in this group. As a postdoc researcher, you will be working on the initiation, planning, and execution of a research project concerned with the impact of wool carpets on indoor air quality in comparison to other flooring materials. The aim is to acquire scientific insight into the way wool behaves as a filtering system for fine dust and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), and determine the effect of wool on indoor air quality based on lab and field experiments in combination with modelling activities.
