ISIAQ Webinar Series Part 2 of 3: Managing buildings in the era of COVID-19
October 29, 2021
9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Event Description
ISIAQ announces a new webinar series related to COVID-19 and the role of buildings.Eighteen months after the beginning of the pandemic and the late recognition of airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2, what have we learned about: indoor air transmission? the way to manage buildings? the efficiency of air cleaners? These three webinars will discuss these different topics around the international experts involved in acquiring new knowledge and advising the policy makers. Free access upon registration. Zoom link to be sent prior to each webinar. Post-webinar on demand replay available to ISIAQ members. This webinar starts at 9am ET (Confirm local time at https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/)

Webinar #2 of 3:
Moderator: Dr. Dustin Poppendieck, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), USA
Speakers: Professor Shelly L. Miller and Dr. Andrew K. Persily

1) Professor Shelly L. Miller, University of Colorado Boulder, USA . Title of the presentationAir cleaners: what have we learned and what do we still need to know? Dr. Shelly L. Miller, is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and faculty in the Environmental Engineering Program at the University of Colorado Boulder, holding an M.S. and Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from University of California, Berkeley and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from Harvey Mudd College.  Dr. Miller teaches about and investigates urban air quality and works diligently to understand the impact of air pollution on public health and the environment. She is also an expert on indoor environmental quality including airborne infectious disease transmission and control and air cleaning technologies. Dr. Miller is a member of the Academy of Fellows of the International Society for Indoor Air and Climate (ISIAQ) and is also an Associate Editor for Environmental Science and Technology. Dr. Miller has published over 80 peer reviewed articles on air quality, authored a Chapter on Indoor Air Quality in the Environmental Engineering Handbook, is an active scientist on twitter, and publishes open access as often as possible.
2) Dr. Andrew K. Persily, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), USA. Title of the presentationUsing CO2 monitoring to manage ventilation in buildingsDr. Andrew Persily is a Fellow at the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), where he has worked for four decades after earning a Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University. His research has focused on indoor air quality and ventilation in commercial and residential buildings, including the development and application of measurement techniques to evaluate airflow and indoor air quality performance and of multi-zone airflow and contaminant dispersal models. He has published more than 300 journal articles, conference papers and NIST reports. Dr. Persily was a vice-president of ASHRAE from 2007 to 2009, and is past chair of ASHRAE Standard 62.1 (Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality) and Standard 189.1 (Design of High-Performance Green Buildings). He is a Fellow of ASHRAE, ASTM and ISIAQ, and recipient of the NIST Bronze, Silver and Gold medals.
